Cycling & Mountain Biking
The mountain biking in Slovenia is some of the best in Europe but the tracks in the North East of the country have the advantage of being some of the quietest too.
Mountain bikers can look forward to swooping single-track descents through lush forests and punishing climbs up limestone paths rewarded with stunning views out to the Adriatic Sea and Venice or back inland to the peaks of the Triglav National Park.
Road bikers will enjoy the six quiet mountain passes that exit the Soca Valley, each of which can be linked to make three superb circuits with both great assent and descent.
The Julian Alps and the areas around Bovec offer everything from easy family days out on wide forest tracks to long and hard mountain day circuits both on and off road. The Kanin cable car also offers an uplift service to Bovec’s dedicated mountain bike park.
It’s possible to hire bikes from a number of sports agencies in Bovec but the specialist biking shop “Outdoor Freaks” offers the best range of technical bikes and a superb guiding service along with tips and advise on where to head.
