Off Piste

Matt, your host, has been a member of a mountain rescue team for over ten years and through this time and during winters away has sat a number of avalanche awareness and rescue courses. In 2002 he also passed the BASI off piste section of the snowboard teachers licence enabling him to take groups off piste within the boundaries of any resort.

When off piste, you will learn what to look for in the terrain, how to spot tell tail signs of avalanche risks and how to recognize danger areas. The chalet is equipped with eight avalanche transceivers, shovels and probes for use as teaching aids for those off piste adventures.

There are a number of day tours that can be undertaken in the local mountains depending on fitness levels and snow conditions.

I am not a mountain guide and this is not a formal course. If you would like to attend a specific avalanche awareness and rescue course I suggest that you contact the UIAA or one of its members.
